As Indonesian films began to air on Netflix and the choice of Indonesian subtitles was available, Netflix also began to look at Indonesian films for distribution on their channels. After the release of the Fantastic Film Festival in Austin on September 22, 2018, The Night Comes for Us does indeed look like a promising film for Netflix. Not a long wait, on September 26, 2018, Netflix announced its distribution rights.

This film by Timo Tjahjanto at first glance does look like a combination of The Raid, The Raid 2, and Headshot, with more gore scenes. Not only that, Timo is also very good at playing camera angles to build contrasting situations.

The film opens with a short narration that mentions the Six Seas. They are an elite delegation consisting of six mysterious people who are tasked with maintaining "security" and "order" for the Triad, the Chinese mafia. Although not much can be revealed from the brief narration, after that the camera is directed directly to a beach before dusk. Beautiful scenery, but not as beautiful as the situation that is happening there. Yep, the slaughter of a village.

At that moment, Ito (Joe Taslim) takes part to "kill" the only remaining villager, a girl named Reina (Asha Kenyeri Bermudez). However, instead of killing the child, Ito instead killed his fellow Triad men. As a result, Ito had to accept himself as a fugitive Triad. Not only Ito, the people around Ito were also in danger.
An elite killing machine that has served the Triad for years must face a barrage of attacks. However, yes, that's all you'll find in this film. Attack after attack, fight after battle. From beginning to end, you will be treated with various methods of death in the style of Final Destination which makes you ache.

For you who don't like to see blood or violence, obviously this film is not for you. Moreover, Netflix gave this film a rating of 18+ because of the violence and harsh words used. Well, the name is also a film about people inside the mafia's body. The world that is displayed is filled with violence. However, seeing how intense the various battles that were presented from the start, you will not be given the opportunity to sigh in relief and digest the story.
As already mentioned, this film shows the tension of battle after battle that never runs out. The tension is getting more intense with really realistic sound effects. Moreover, when there is a scene to break bones. Pain!

If it is balanced with a fun plot - not just a shift between one battle and another - and characterizations that are explored in the film, this film can certainly give a different experience to the fullest.

After Before the Devil Picks (2018), it was felt that the style of shooting scenes and the movement of the Timo camera became more dynamic. The fight scene inside the police mile, for example, the movements are really fast, but it doesn't make you dizzy and instead makes you nervous. Perhaps Timo also experimented in this film. Therefore, we should make room for more other experiments.

What is clear, if you can enjoy The Raid and Headshot, you will easily accept this film. Although you could say it was slow at first, the film was quite satisfying.
